Picking Gill Memorial Dedication
On the 1st November 1916, a local farmer’s son
lost his life on the Somme, 100 years to the day we remembered him and two of
his local comrades.
The parishioners of Sawley commissioned a memorial
comprising of a stone gate post with engraved plaque to remember those who had
fallen from the parish during world war 1.
Those remembered are:

Regiment who was killed in action on 1st November 1916 age 21.
