DTMS Group Ltd were commissioned in Spring of this year by Tadcaster Grammar School to carry out a full renovation of their 400m athletic track. This facility had been in place for many years but had started to show signs of wear and tear.
We began by removing all the original timber edging and replaced it with a long lasting aluminium edging product called Rite L Edge supplied by www.green-tech.co.uk, an interlocking edging that provides a rigid barrier between the external grass and the track surface, its flexibility allows for long flowing curves but can also be manipulated into tight radiuses.
The old track surface was removed and taken away for recycling allowing for the importation of a product called Redgra, which is uniquely produced in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. A blend of red clay and fine limestone gravel which provides a firm, self binding surface allowing for year round use due to its free draining properties. The three hundred tons of material was laid by specialist surfacing contractors using a paving machine to ensure an accurate even surface allowing for crossfalls.
The long jump pits were also renovated, again with the edging replaced and the run ups also receiving a new surface of Redgra.
Underground ducting was installed to allow for future electrical connections to the sports facility.
