Turf Laying for flood banking works
A section of the Humber Estuary flood bank required increasing in height slightly, to ensure the safety of properties in North Ferriby and the surrounding areas.

The existing flood banking was incorporated into residents gardens and was therefore kept to a high standard.

So, as part of the works package that was agreed between the Environment Agency and the main Civil Engineering contractor, VBA joint venture (Volker Stevin, Boskalis Westminster and Atkins), that to achieve a high standard on completion, to re instate the banking with turf.

This required 2500m2 of turf, and because the site was a long, straight flood bank, DTMS were able to use larger than normal, 1m wide rolls.  These were installed using our low ground pressure tractor, and meant a lot less unnecessary ground disturbance and compaction.

This was a challenging site due to very limited work and storage space, and so tight management was essential to ensure the smooth running of the project.
